A problem with the Optus telephone network that disrupted some landline and mobile customers across Australia had been fixed, the company said.An Optus spokeswoman earlier said some landline customers, in each state and territory, had been experiencing problems making phone calls for hours.
"Optus can confirm that for several hours today some people calling landlines on the Optus network experienced intermittent call failure," the Optus spokeswoman said."The issue is close to being resolved. Services are being progressively restored as calls are being re-routed."
An Optus spokeswoman later said the network problem, which also affected an unknown number of Optus mobile telephone customers nationwide, had been fixed and normal services had resumed.
